8 Foot Christmas Trees

Should I Buy an Unlit or Pre-lit Artificial Tree?

Since they first became popular in the 1930s, artificial Christmas trees have been a staple in the holiday decor collection for many homes. Easy and convenient, these trees eliminated the need to go trekking through the woods on a cold day in search of the perfect Christmas tree, not to mention the hassle of cutting one down and dragging it home. Another huge perk is that artificial trees can be used over and over again, and when properly cared for, they don’t have to be replaced for many years. In recent times, there’s been a new development with these trees that has made them even more attractive to people – the pre-lit Christmas tree. If you’ve never had one of these trees, then you may be wondering what all the hype is about. Keep reading to help you decide if you should get a pre-lit or an unlit tree.

Advantages of Pre-Lit Christmas Trees
• The most obvious advantage is, of course, that these trees have the lights already on them. There’s no need to purchase lights, spend forever untangling them (which is inevitable with Christmas lights), or wind them around the tree, trying to space them perfectly so the lights are evenly distributed. Unlit trees usually have high quality lights that are spaced to add just the right amount of light to your tree, with no bare spots or places with too many lights. The wires are also nicely camouflaged with these trees.
• You don’t have to worry about all the lights going out if one bulb gets broken. This is one of the most common complaints about Christmas lights, in general. If even one bulb blows, the whole strand goes out. This is incredibly frustrating, particularly if you’ve already got the lights on the tree. With a pre-lit tree, however, this is never a problem as the bulbs are specially designed to stay lit, even if another one goes out.
• Assembly is easy with a pre-lit Christmas tree. Most models come in 2 or 3 pieces, and you just attach them and plug the lights in as you go.

Advantages of Unlit Christmas Trees
• You get to pick exactly what kind of lights you want for your tree. Most pre-lit trees only come with certain types of lights or colors, so if you want something really unique, you may not be able to find it. With an unlit tree, this is never a problem as you can choose exactly what you like and light your tree accordingly.
• Unlit trees are cheaper than pre-lit trees. Obviously, you’re just buying a tree, since the tree and the lights are sold separately. You’ll also be doing the job yourself of stringing the lights, so these trees can be significantly cheaper.
• You have a wider variety of tree types to choose from. Of course, you can always get the traditional evergreen, but you also could opt for a different color or different material of tree, like aluminum or even feathers.

Artificial trees are great for their convenience and their years of continued use, but deciding between an unlit or a pre-lit tree can be tough. Both have several benefits, and it really comes down to which tree fits best with your lifestyle.
