Giant Christmas Trees
Tips for Decorating a Christmas Tree
Ah, Christmas trees. That holiday tradition that lets you bring the outdoors in and string it with pretty lights and dangle all sorts of ornaments from tree branches. Trees have become the focal point of holiday decorations, prominently displayed in the windows of people’s homes, storefronts, and more. Tree lighting ceremonies are planned, and hundreds turn out to ooh and ahh as a giant switch is flipped and the tree shines to life. So with all this focus on Christmas trees, you may be thinking about decorating your own tree at home. Before you start, read on to get some helpful tips about Christmas tree decorating that are applicable to these Giant Christmas Trees too.
Plan ahead and get everything organized. This one is really important. There’s nothing like being totally unprepared to create frustration, and during the holidays, this is the last thing you need. If you don’t already have a tree or if you plan on getting a real one, then you need to set aside some time for acquiring your tree. Decide ahead of time where you’re going to put your tree, and get the stand ready to go. Get out all your lights and decorations, and put them in an easy-to-reach spot for after the tree is set up. Unwind the lights and plug them in to make sure they work, and have the ornaments and garlands ready to go.
Order of decorations matters. Once you’ve got the tree up, there is an order that should be followed for decorating. If you deviate from this order, then you’re going to make it a lot harder on yourself. The first thing you put on is the lights, followed by any garlands or tinsel you want to add, and then the ornaments. The last pieces are the tree topper and skirt.
Don’t forget the inside spaces. Most people make the mistake of only focusing on the outside parts of the branches, but there’s plenty of space toward the trunk for decorating, too. Weave lights and garlands on the inside parts of the tree, and hang ornaments on these parts as well to add depth to your Christmas tree.
Pick a theme/color scheme. Of course, you can decorate your tree however you like, but trees with a clear theme or color scheme look very classy and well put together. You could go for a snowflake theme, decorating with snowflake ornaments and silver ball ornaments. Or maybe you want something that will really pop, so you opt for all red decorations. You could do white lights with all different kinds of red ornaments, from basic balls to intricate, handmade ornaments. Whatever you decide to do, remember to use a mix of basic ornaments plus specialty ones. This breaks up the tree nicely and allows people to better view your unique ornaments.
Use a variety of decorations and alternate materials. The great thing about Christmas trees is that they allow you to display several different types of decorations. Lights, garlands, and ornaments are standard, but you can also add pieces that are more unique or add a bit of flair. For instance, instead of using tinsel, you could weave ribbons throughout your tree. Not only is this beautiful, but there’s no mess as well. If you’re really crafty, you could even make your own decorations using any materials you like.
